DCS does not seem to be very well optimized for VR and certain in game options can lead to stuttering even with a modern processor.
Not yet confirmed but one of the following (or combination of) options has a severe impact on performance
Terrain Textures: High
Forest Visibility: 64%
Visibilty Range: Medium
Scenery Details Factor: 1
Chimney Smoke Density:10
Clouds: Standard
The following three (3) items are supposed to have a pretty negative performance impact
Forest Draw Distance
Forest Detail
Scenery Detail
In VR if you are using a clickable cockpit this should be set to High or some of the text will not be readable and will be blurry. This should not have a noticeable impact on performance.
Off
No road or rail traffic
Low, Med, High
Sets density of road and rail traffic
Low
Basic water without a 3D surface
Medium
3D Surface and shelf
High
3D surface, shelf and reflections
Ground objects (building and trees) rendered at short (Low), medium (Med) or long (High) range
On
Enables heat blur from aircraft engines at low speed
Low
Planar shading for all objects
Medium
Object in the focus of view has self-casting shadows
All other objects have planar shadows
High
Object in focus has soft shadows
All other objects have planar shadows
Resolution of Mirrors, MFD, Maps, Video Indicators, etc...
High resolution can impact smoothness of gameplay
Selects anti-aliasing level
OFF: No HDR effects
COLD COLORS: HDR effects at low intensity
NORMAL: HDR effects at medium intensity
WARM COLORS: HDR effects at high intensity
Range to render grass and bushes
Distance that trees are rendered
This adjusts when the LODS for the forest pops in. This looks like trees growing when in the game
Similar to Forest Details Factor, controls LODs
Radius of preloaded terrain around user (in meters)
Larger values increase system RAM usage
Smaller values requires faster disk storage
